Deccan Express Logistics has announced the launch of its commercial freighter services. The company is founded by Captain G R Gopinath, who had earlier founded Air Deccan, now owned by Kingfisher.
It will be the first Indian express logistics company to launch an international air freighter that will connect India with the Middle-East and South-East Asia, claims the company.
Deccan Express has already acquired five Airbus A-310 aircraft. In addition, it will also have six smaller ATR aircraft, which will carry cargo to and from the interiors of the country to the metro cities. Initially, it will operate five times a week on the Delhi-Mumbai-Chennai-Hong Kong-Dubai sector. The services will begin from 27th May 2009 under the brand name ‘Deccan 360′.
Along with the freighter services, it intends to provide logistics services. Deccan Express has signed a MoU with the GMR Group for setting up express cargo operations at Delhi and Hyderabad airport. It is also developing a hub-and-spoke model in Nagpur, where it plans to deploy its own trucks and warehousing facilities. All these collectively will form an extensive multi-modal storage, transportation and delivery network.
The company will also offer technology solutions that will enable its customers to track shipments online-24 X 7.
Deccan Express will compete against established companies like Gati, Blue Dart, TNT in the domestic cargo and logistics market.
